Snowshoe, Wine & Fondue Tasting
The Perfect Winter Day
Enjoy the winter in true alpine style: a day of snowshoeing on breathtakingly beautiful and well-groomed trails, then back to Manhattan for an exquisite fondue and wine tasting in a private wine grotto with other outdoorsy New Yorkers. Our Swiss hosts will make us most comfortable as we sample from two custom-made fondues — raclette and chocolate — and a wide range of wines from an open bar!
Snowshoeing is easy to learn — if you can hike, you can snowshoe! You will torch hundreds of calories while taking in the beautiful winter woods. Explore off-trail and over rugged terrain if you wish — snowshoes are surprisingly maneuverable.
We return to midtown and tuck into some luscious raclette and chocolate fondues and an open-bar tasting of seven red and seven white wines. What a day!
Event Details
- Bring Your lunch, snacks and two liters of water in a backpack (you will lose a lot of fluids sweating, and it is important to stay hydrated!) A thermos of hot soup, tea or coffee is also a great idea.
- Wear Ski gear — nylon outer shell (aka, ski pants and jacket), warm layers — you will need to peel off a layer as you heat up! Hat, gloves, scarf. Packs of hand/foot warmers from the drugstore are a good idea too! Wear waterproof/Gore-Tex lined boots and an extra pair of warm socks. See Notes below.
- Departure time 9:00 AM. Please arrive by 8:45 for check-in.
- Event end 7:00 PM
- Departure Location Northeast corner of 73rd and Broadway, in front of Apple Bank. Subways 1, 2, 3 to 72nd Street.
- WHAT'S INCLUDED Expert guides, transportation, snowshoes, snowshoe instruction
- Note We love comfy cotton clothes for lounging…but they just aren't the best thing for outdoor excursions. Why? Cotton holds moisture, gets heavy and loses its insulative properties. Wool is best, but any synthetic is better than cotton for winter sports. Polyester, poly blends, polypropylene, Capilene, DryWick, DryFIT — any of these will serve you better than cotton.
- Another Note You really do need waterproof boots. Your feet will be in the snow constantly, and boots that let in water/snow will make your feet cold and wet all day. Trust us! We've tried it and were miserable.

New Experiences
Skydiving, ice-climbing, hot-air ballooning, skiing and hiking every weekend are just a few of Outdoor Bound’s year-round adventures. These trips are accessible to everyone, including the novice, who might feel a little uneasy, the young urban professional trying to get away and even the adrenaline junkie looking for a new rush.
Environmental Awareness
“Leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but pictures,” is the Leave No Trace motto embraced by Outdoor Bound. From purchasing bamboo T-shirts to printing with soy-based inks on recycled paper, Outdoor Bound strives to create the least environmental impact possible while on trips and in the office.
