Memorial Day: Canopus Lake Hike

Easy-Moderate Hike on the Appalachian Trail

This beautiful trail is a section the Appalachian Trail for 5 miles as it winds through the forest in this beautiful state park.
Lunch is at a high point with a splendid vista overlooking all of Canopus Lake. We’ll take a trail down to the lake for a dip and some sunning, then make our way back along a craggy path.

This is the “easiest” level of hike we do, but you MUST be in good physical shape—it is NOT a walk, it is a hike. You will sweat, you will gain hundreds of feet in elevation, you will be walking on a rocky path and climbing over streams and trees at points. In summer, bring or wear your swimsuit for a dip in the lake!

Event Details

  • BRING Your lunch and two liters of water. A backpack or day pack and weather-appropriate clothing.
  • Departure Time 9:00 AM. Arrive by 8:45 for check in.
  • Return Time Approximately 6:00 PM.
  • Departure and Return Location Our passenger vans depart from the Northeast corner of 73rd Street and Broadway. Meet in front of Apple Bank. Subways 1, 2, 3 to 72nd Street.

Many people in the Outdoor Bound community have forged lasting friendships as a result of our trips.

Skydiving, ice-climbing, hot-air ballooning, skiing and hiking every weekend are just a few of Outdoor Bound’s year-round adventures. These trips are accessible to everyone, including the novice, who might feel a little uneasy, the young urban professional trying to get away and even the adrenaline junkie looking for a new rush.
