Hudson Sailing & Hike
Fantastic full day on the water and trails
A fantastic full day on the water and trails.
Sail the Hudson River, hike the Indian Path and scout birds of prey.
Our adventure will begin with a morning sail on the Hudson. Bring your lunch and relax in the sun. As we head up the Hudson, learn the basics of sailing. We’ll start from the glamorous North Cove Marina, at the World Financial Center. Board our historic sailing yacht Ventura, originally owned by the founder of Citibank in 1920, for a cruise up the Hudson River.
Later in the morning, we drop anchor close to the Palisades Cliffs Bird Sanctuary, most likely spotting red tailed hawks circling for fish along the way. Then, in teams of six, climb down a boarding ladder into our rigid-bottom inflatable, into the beach. Everyone is barefoot, shoes slung around their necks, pants rolled up. (We land in about a foot of water).
Our guides will escort you ashore to hike along the old Indian path, an extension of the famous “Long Path” begins, heading north through the trees along this rarely–hiked trail.
We’ll reboard the Ventura around 3:30, which has moved up river with the remaining crew and guests who prefer to remain aboard. The ship has a shower for post-swim rinse-off.
The next leg of the journey is the sail home, when we enjoy happy hour on the ship! Beer, wine and soft drinks are included.
