Flamenco Lesson, Dinner, Drinks & Performance

Wine & dine Flamenco style: Sangria, Dinner with Flamenco Lesson & Performance!

A fun evening of dance, drinks, dinner and exciting Flamenco performed by professionals.

Meet fun, adventurous men and women who aren’t afraid to have a drink and learn a dance step or two.

Flamenco is a very expressive, percussive type of dance that is NOT partner-dependent. While you may have seen pairs in performance, it is not compulsory to the dance form—especially as you are learning. This is the perfect fun event to try on your own or with a few friends!

First, loosen up with a refreshing Sangria. Next, our flamenco instructor La Magdalena, based in New York City and Seville, Spain will greet us and give a 30-minute introductory lesson. This will help you understand and appreciate the performance we enjoy during dinner at L’Orange Bleue.
We will get a taste of playing palmas (rhythmic hand-clapping), teach our feet to taconear, and may even try to move fluidly and confidently to the music with some marcaje.

Finally, we’ll settle in for the Flamenco performance (3 sets) over a delicious and inventive dinner…“some dishes come from the Basque Country, others from Provence and the cosmopolitan city of Marseille, our home. More food and the energy come from the border countries of the Mediterranean sea like Italy, Spain, Corsica, Lebanon, and of course Africa where our outer-mediterranean euphoria fulfils the Wizard of l’Orange Bleue.”

About the Instructor

When not in the U.S. teaching or performing, “La Magdalena” trains in Seville, Spain- home of flamenco puro- with the legendary gypsy families of Farruco, Fernandez and Vargas.

From 1996 to 1999, Magdalena helped create a revival of the New York flamenco scene, dancing at hot new clubs throughout the city such as Xunta, Alegrias, and Kaña. Soon afterward, she was able to use her organic approach and educational background to teach people of all ages and backgrounds.

Magdalena has been performing ever since as singer, dancer and percussionist. She can be found touring with Flamenco Triana in Chicago and in New York with the Neville Dance Theater. Magdalena receives choreography commissions from Arts-in-Education programs across the Northeast. This season she is busy coaching two opera singers in preparation for their roles as Carmen.

Catch La Magdalena performing with her group in SoHo at L’Orange Bleue!

They are a mix of women and men. While the group is always diverse, you will certainly feel welcome. Our guides go the extra mile to make the atmosphere of each trip social and fun. Many people in the Outdoor Bound community have forged lasting friendships as a result of our trips.

New Experiences

Skydiving, ice-climbing, hot-air ballooning, skiing and hiking every weekend are just a few of Outdoor Bound’s year-round adventures. These trips are accessible to everyone, including the novice, who might feel a little uneasy, the young urban professional trying to get away and even the adrenaline junkie looking for a new rush.

Environmental Awareness

“Leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but pictures,” is the Leave No Trace motto embraced by Outdoor Bound. From purchasing bamboo T-shirts to printing with soy-based inks on recycled paper, Outdoor Bound strives to create the least environmental impact possible while on trips and in the office.

Testimonials

Thanks for a great mountain biking trip on Saturday! Your guys are real stars, they created a fantastic day of mountian biking that I’d never have been able to achieve by myself. They were great guides, who knew their stuff, knew the terrain, and were great bike handlers. They were superfast when needed, and also smart enough to be slow when that was required. They were also punctual and conscientious. I’d do it again in a second, it was worth the money. Keep up the good work, and I'll use your services again in the near future. — Philip
