Multi-Day
Whitewater Rafting & Multi-Sport Weekend
Best Whitewater in the East
Join Outdoor Bound as we head for roaring water! The New River of West Virginia provides the best whitewater in the eastern United States. Make the most of your Memorial Day Weekend with this multi-sport adventure.
Ready for the rapid just ahead, you look around to soak-in your surroundings. The size of the Gorge and the cliffs looming hundreds of feet overhead are humbling and larger than life. The river’s current begins picking up speed as you enter the rapid. The river suddenly drops, catapulting your raft down a slide and then up the face of a giant wave. You are looking up at the sky, wide-eyed and smiling. Your crew continues paddling as a team, from one wave to the next, water crashing from all sides as your friends yell in excitement. The water calms, prompting paddle high–fives and water-soaked smiles. As you turn and look upstream you realize what a special place West Virginia is.

What to Bring
Itinerary
Friday > Journey from New York to West Virginia
Departing noon on Friday, relax and enjoy a beautiful drive southwest to the state of West Virginia.
Saturday > Hiking, Rock Climbing or Horseback Riding
The day is yours! Kick off the day to a hearty breakfast, then on to your choice of rock climbing, horseback riding, caving, or just lounge around the camp and explore the woods.
Rock Climbing
Licensed guides will be your belay when you strap yourself into a harness and look for handholds in the rock, honing your dexterity and strength. This is a great way to explore the magnificent New River Gorge.
Horseback Riding
Enjoy the sights and sounds of the mountainous New River Gorge area while riding along wooded trails. This is a great way to combine adventures while vacationing in West Virginia.
Sunday > Rafting the New River
Cradling one of the oldest rivers in the world, the New River Gorge is a geologic masterpiece formed over millions of years. The New river offers a wide array of whitewater adventure experiences as it cascades north through the Appalachian Mountains. The lower New gets steeper as the gorge constricts, creating over 20 legendary big water rapids before you take out underneath the awe-inspiring New River Gorge Bridge.
Stunning mountain scenery, diverse wildlife, rich history, and dependable water flows combine to make the “Grand Canyon of the East” home to America’s best whitewater.
Monday > Depart for Home
After a final restful night of camping in the quiet woods of West Virginia, prepare yourself for the journey home. Our drive starts in the morning so you can be home in time to prepare for your week ahead.

From cycling across the United States to leading horse treks through New Zealand to scaling Nepalese peaks, Outdoor Bound guides have real-world outdoor experience. Collectively, they have hiked, biked, climbed and kayaked tens of thousands of miles around the globe.
Whether their professional backgrounds are as teachers, personal trainers, artists, environmentalists or business leaders, they all have an extensive knowledge of the natural world and local history. Each guide has also passed a rigorous guide certification program and is trained in wilderness first aid or as a Wilderness First Responder.
Diverse & Interesting Groups
There is no typical Outdoor Bound participant. While ages typically range from 20 to 50, those who come to experience outdoor adventure range from singles to couples, from lawyers to waiters. They are a mix of women and men. While the group is always diverse, you will certainly feel welcome. Our guides go the extra mile to make the atmosphere of each trip social and fun. Many people in the Outdoor Bound community have forged lasting friendships as a result of our trips.
New Experiences
Skydiving, ice-climbing, hot-air ballooning, skiing and hiking every weekend are just a few of Outdoor Bound’s year-round adventures. These trips are accessible to everyone, including the novice, who might feel a little uneasy, the young urban professional trying to get away and even the adrenaline junkie looking for a new rush.
Environmental Awareness
“Leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but pictures,” is the Leave No Trace motto embraced by Outdoor Bound. From purchasing bamboo T-shirts to printing with soy-based inks on recycled paper, Outdoor Bound strives to create the least environmental impact possible while on trips and in the office.
