White Mountains Snowshoe & Ski Weekend
Backcountry Snowshoeing & Nordic Skiing Weekend in New Hampshire
Join the Outdoor Bound Team in honoring Martin Luther King this weekend. In this three-day, two-night expedition, we will hike, snowshoe and ski through the tall and rugged White Mountain’s that are reminiscent of Martin Luther King’s persevering spirit. Here we will explore snowy peaks, deep, remote valleys and take in stunning views while paying tribute to one of our greatest leaders. This trip is for fit, experienced hikers. Winter is no stranger to the aptly named Whites, and visitors will quickly embrace the season’s majestic transformation of this wild paradise. The setting for the weekend takes place in Pinkham Notch, an impressive valley cut through the center of the White Mountain National Forest and home to countless high peaks, cascading waterfalls, lakes, streams and wildlife of all kinds. Our lodge is nestled at the top of this notch and is complete with cozy sleeping quarters and hot meals, and provides unrivaled access to the surrounding backcountry playground.

Itinerary
Saturday > Drive into the White Mountains
We depart New York City on Saturday morning and drive into the heart of the White Mountains, the most magestic in the Northeast. Along the way, we will stop for lunch and bathroom breaks. Once we reach the cozy lodge, we may unload our bags and set up our home for the weekend. This afternoon, prepare to stretch your legs with a moderate hike through the most inspirational region in the area. We will return again to the lodge by 6:00 PM, where our home-cooked meal awaits, followed by sweets, entertainment or perhaps just a well-earned sleep.
Sunday > Snowshoe the Whites
Our journey begins at Pinkham Notch, a narrow valley eroded by geologic forces over millions of years. The Pinkham region is home to countless lakes, high peaks, cascading waterfalls and wildlife of all kinds. After a brief introduction into winter travel, we will polish our snowshoeing techniques and head into the Pinkham Notch wilderness. We will snowshoe past mind-blowing terrain and cover over five miles and 2,000 feet in elevation. You will surely be impressed by the comforts and ease of backcountry travel with the continued support and instruction from your Outdoor Bound guide. Along the way, you can expect a high calorie lunch and plenty of snacks to keep you well fueled. In the evening, you may read or play games by the fire, or just sit and enjoy our good company. If we are lucky enough to have clear skies, the winter constellations will not disappoint.
Monday > I Have a Dream
Today, Martin Luther King Day, follow your outdoor dreams. We have the option of exploring further by hiking, snowshoeing, nordic skiing, or simply relaxing in front of the fire at Joe Dodge Lodge. Whatever your dream may be, make it happen today. What better way to recognize your freedom than an adventure in the White Mountains, home to the state motto of “Live Free or Die”? All outdoor pursuits come under instruction and supervision of Outdoor Bound guides. At high noon, we will all congregate at the Lodge, pack up again and return to New York by 8:00 PM.
