Sea kayaking at sunset on the Hudson River and kayak to an abandoned castle“Image”

Ready for a sea kayaking adventure? Join us on the mighty Hudson River for 3.5 hours of paddling at sunset, and explore the coastline of an abandoned castle on an island. After an open water paddling workshop, you will be ready to navigate the waters of the Hudson River. With fast moving current, dynamic hydraulic conditions, unique sites and history, the Hudson river estuary is truly a world class sea kayaking resource providing an unlimited amount of on-water fun. We’ll be paddling through a beautiful section of the Hudson, near West Point and Storm King. Learn about New York’s military history and how this castle came to be.

Skill Requirements

You need to have some experience kayaking, be confident in the water and know how to swim. Good core strength and endurance are required. Example: If you can do 20 push ups, if you work out three or more times per week, or practice yoga, you will be fine.

Kayaks will be sit-on-top sea kayaks which are very stable, or classic “sit inside” decked kayaks with spray skirt (more experienced kayakers). The return may bring us some headwinds, so a good workout is guaranteed. You must be taller than 4’10” to participate.
There is guaranteed to be wake from passing ships and ferries, strong current and tidal surge. Please carefully consider your abilities before signing up.

All gear is included: kayak, paddles, life jacket, spray skirt (if needed).

New Experiences

Skydiving, ice-climbing, hot-air ballooning, skiing and hiking every weekend are just a few of Outdoor Bound’s year-round adventures. These trips are accessible to everyone, including the novice, who might feel a little uneasy, the young urban professional trying to get away and even the adrenaline junkie looking for a new rush.

Environmental Awareness

“Leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but pictures,” is the Leave No Trace motto embraced by Outdoor Bound. From purchasing bamboo T-shirts to printing with soy-based inks on recycled paper, Outdoor Bound strives to create the least environmental impact possible while on trips and in the office.
