In the City
Spanish Wine Tasting & Intro to Flamenco
Stomp, Clap, Drink & Be Merry!
This event is for anyone interested in dance, music, percussion or Andalucian culture—oh, and Spanish wine, too! Flamenco is a very rhythmic dance form. Partnering is not required- especially as you are just learning. This is the perfect fun event to try on your own or with a few friends.
Meet La Magdalena, a flamenco dancer based in New York City and Seville, Spain. Taste wine from Spain and meet others with your same interests, as the art of flamenco is demystified in front of your very eyes. These sessions will cover the basics of flamenco, from head to toe. Students learn the proper technique for palmas (hand-clapping), some beginners taconear, and brazeo (arm and hand coordination). Then, if there is magic in the air—and wine in the belly—a few steps are put together so you can practice at home. La Magdalena will also give a brief history of flamenco and some insider tips to seeing the best artists around. Ole!

About the Instructor
When not in the U.S. teaching or performing, “La Magdalena” trains in Seville, Spain—home of flamenco puro—with the legendary gypsy families of Farruco, Fernandez and Vargas.
From 1996 to 1999, Magdalena helped create a revival of the New York flamenco scene, dancing at hot new clubs throughout the city such as Xunta, Alegrias, and Kaña. Soon afterward, she was using her organic musical approach and educational background to teach people of all ages and backgrounds.
Magdalena has performed across the U.S. with companies such as Flamenco Triana (Chicago), Pasion y Arte (Philadelphia), and Compania Juanito Pascual in Boston. In the Northeast she tours as lecture/demonstrator with Arts in Education organizations such as World on Stage and as consultant with the Spanish Consulate’s Ministerio de Educacion (ALCE). She has coached opera singer Janara Kellerman in preparation for her role as Carmen for the New York City Opera, and recorded footwork for Antony and the Johnsons CD to be released in 2010.

Diverse & Interesting Groups
There is no typical Outdoor Bound participant. While ages typically range from 20 to 50, those who come to experience outdoor adventure range from singles to couples, from lawyers to waiters. They are a mix of women and men. While the group is always diverse, you will certainly feel welcome. Our guides go the extra mile to make the atmosphere of each trip social and fun. Many people in the Outdoor Bound community have forged lasting friendships as a result of our trips.
New Experiences
Skydiving, ice-climbing, hot-air ballooning, skiing and hiking every weekend are just a few of Outdoor Bound’s year-round adventures. These trips are accessible to everyone, including the novice, who might feel a little uneasy, the young urban professional trying to get away and even the adrenaline junkie looking for a new rush.
Environmental Awareness
“Leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but pictures,” is the Leave No Trace motto embraced by Outdoor Bound. From purchasing bamboo T-shirts to printing with soy-based inks on recycled paper, Outdoor Bound strives to create the least environmental impact possible while on trips and in the office.
