Day Trips
Sea Kayaking Paddle & Pub to 79th St. Boat Basin
Sea kayaking adventure on the Hudson River in New York, with lunch and a beer
Ready for a sea kayaking adventure? Join us on the mighty Hudson River for 3.5 hours of paddling and a stop at the famous 79th Street Boat Basin for an outdoor lunch and a beer!
Manhattan Kayak, the New York City region’s premier full service sea kayaking guiding and instruction company, will lead us in an open water paddling workshop designed exclusively for Outdoor Bound. With fast moving current, dynamic hydraulic conditions, unique sites and history, the Hudson river estuary is truly a world class sea kayaking resource providing an unlimited amount of on water fun.
To meet the challenges of this area and turn active minded individuals of all ages on to the joys of “Gotham paddling” Manhattan Kayak has pioneered full body kayaking with an emphasis on effective technique and safety. With more than a decade of success, Manhattan Kayak is now excited to partner with Outdoor Bound in a continued effort to get busy New Yorkers out on the water to check out the exhilarating and relaxing experience of HUMAN POWERED boating around Manhattan Island.
On this great half-day tour, we will paddle from 26th Street up to the 79th Street Boat Basin with the incoming tide, have lunch and a beer (out of pocket), then paddle back on the slack tide.
Skill Requirements
You need to have some experience kayaking, be confident in the water and know how to swim. Good core strength and endurance are required. Example: If you can do 20 push ups, if you work out 3 or more times per week, or are an avid yogi or Pilates practitioner, you will be fine, but make no mistake: this is a strenuous workout.
Kayaks will be sit-on-top sea kayaks which are very stable, or classic “sit inside” decked kayaks with spray skirt (more experienced kayakers). The return may bring us some headwinds, so a good workout is guaranteed. You must be taller than 4’10” to participate.
There is guaranteed to be wake from passing ships and ferries, strong current and tidal surge. Please carefully consider your abilities before signing up.
All gear is included: kayak, paddles, life jacket, spray skirt (if needed).

They are a mix of women and men. While the group is always diverse, you will certainly feel welcome. Our guides go the extra mile to make the atmosphere of each trip social and fun. Many people in the Outdoor Bound community have forged lasting friendships as a result of our trips.
New Experiences
Skydiving, ice-climbing, hot-air ballooning, skiing and hiking every weekend are just a few of Outdoor Bound’s year-round adventures. These trips are accessible to everyone, including the novice, who might feel a little uneasy, the young urban professional trying to get away and even the adrenaline junkie looking for a new rush.
Environmental Awareness
“Leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but pictures,” is the Leave No Trace motto embraced by Outdoor Bound. From purchasing bamboo T-shirts to printing with soy-based inks on recycled paper, Outdoor Bound strives to create the least environmental impact possible while on trips and in the office.
