Day Trips
Hike, Wine & Charcuterie Tasting

Image

Beautiful hike and private tasting class at NYC’s most elegant wine shop

Half-day hike and “Smell-O-Rama” wine tasting, with full charcuterie spread at New York Wine Co. The nose is the focus—learn to discriminate among wine aromas as you taste, dine and socialize.

We will hike a beautiful three hours atop cliffs and down escarpments, traversing the Hudson River Palisades. You will see a ruin, giant stairs and several stunning lookouts on this half-day hike. The trail is mostly easy hiking, with several very steep, short climbs. The hike will be divided into two groups: Easy/Moderate and Challenging. The Easy/Moderate hike will be mostly flat but include two steep 1/4-mile climbs up and down. The Challenging option is for confident, experienced hikers only; it includes two miles of difficult (but rewarding) rock scrambling over huge boulders. Both trails include spectacular views.

Back in the city, we will arrive at New York Wine Co., an elegant wine shop in TriBeCa for a private wine-tasting class and full charcuterie spread.

This event is designed to show you how important your nose is when it comes to wine. We will identify six basic smells that are common in wine, ranging from minerals to tropical fruits. We will set up each smell at its own “smell station” for people to go experience. Rob will then lead everyone through the smells and how they relate to the wines. Four different wines will be poured that correspond with the smells. Our chef Chris will provide a full spread of assorted sliced cured meats, a cheese board with a selection of regional cheese, housemade pickles, olives, fennel pollen shortbread, white bean hummus with roasted red pepper, as well as passed hot appetizers for smelling enhancement and noshing pleasure.

Like what you taste? You’ll also receive 10% of any wine purchase that evening. New York Wine Co. has both a conspicuous passion for the classic wines of Europe and a loyalty to quality wines from the world’s other notable regions.

They are a mix of women and men. While the group is always diverse, you will certainly feel welcome. Our guides go the extra mile to make the atmosphere of each trip social and fun. Many people in the Outdoor Bound community have forged lasting friendships as a result of our trips.

New Experiences

Skydiving, ice-climbing, hot-air ballooning, skiing and hiking every weekend are just a few of Outdoor Bound’s year-round adventures. These trips are accessible to everyone, including the novice, who might feel a little uneasy, the young urban professional trying to get away and even the adrenaline junkie looking for a new rush.

Environmental Awareness

“Leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but pictures,” is the Leave No Trace motto embraced by Outdoor Bound. From purchasing bamboo T-shirts to printing with soy-based inks on recycled paper, Outdoor Bound strives to create the least environmental impact possible while on trips and in the office.
